Although owned by two local women, Cowboys & Angels, an upscale resale store, is truly operated through community collaboration.
“This is not just our store. It’s the community’s store. We carry more merchandise from individuals and vendors in the community, than from ourselves,” said Angel Callan and Jennifer Koenig who opened the store in October 2009.
In a short amount of time Cowboys & Angels has acquired over seventy local vendors, displaying a wide variety of new and used merchandise. Although they carry an attractive selection of western and rustic items, don’t let the name fool you - Cowboys & Angels has something for every style and taste. Creative displays throughout the store showcase a variety of jewelry, home décor items, clothing, antiques, candles, barn wood and metal work, furniture (including furniture for baby), and even custom made wine glass koozies! Many of the custom made items are created right here in Florence. Several ladies and high school students make stone jewelry. The store carries cedar furniture made in Florence. Cowboys & Angels even caters to men shoppers by providing gift certificates, help with gift selection, and gift wrap.
Callan and Koenig say they want shopping at their store to be affordable. Shoppers can find items priced under a dollar and up. If you are looking for something specific, Callan and Koenig will keep an eye out for your special request. Cowboys & Angels will feature a special discount on the first Saturday of each month. Clothing will be 50% off on the first Saturday of March.
Family and community support is very important to Callan and Koenig, who both went to Florence schools and have remained residents. Both women have children at FISD and say there may be occasions when they put a sign up in the door saying they closed a few minutes early so they can attend their children’s sporting events. Cowboys & Angels plans to join the Florence Chamber of Commerce and actively participate in community events. They are willing to donate items to fundraisers for local organizations and churches and are working to specialize in Buffalo spirit items.
“We are very thankful for the warm welcoming and support we’ve received from the community,” said Callan and Koenig.
Individuals and vendors who are interested in placing items on consignment at Cowboys & Angels may contact Angel Callan 512.762.8146 or Jennifer Koenig 512.818.0905 or stop by the store 101 E. Main Street in Florence. Cowboys & Angels is open Wednesday through Saturday 10am-5pm.
Currently, Cowboys & Angels has a selection of prom dresses so high school students can shop locally, but would like more brought in on consignment.
“At Cowboys & Angels everyone benefits – you make money, we make money, and you save money,” said Koenig.
